moving I.

We've spent the last few days figuring out how we'll get our lives moved to California. We have about two months to be done with it.

It's a given that we'll be living in tighter quarters, to say the least. So step one is a massive purge of... stuff. A chance to simplify, if you will. Not a bad thing.

One of the things I may give up, so that we don't need to build an extension for it, is my clock radio: the venerable GE 4885. Observe its grandeur:

It is stylish, no?

I've had it for 25 years or so. 25 years! In that time I've tried to replace it once or twice, but the keypad. How can I settle for a lame "up/down" interface?

If someone can point me at a good, modern alarm clock with a keypad that rivals the 4885's, then I'll consider retiring the walnut-grained monster for good. But I warn you: the 4885 is not to be taken lightly.
