sometimes i read.

I finished A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius tonight... great book. Reading it was like listening to a really great record for the first time. You know, you're trying to take it all in but you can't, but that's fine because what you are taking in is great.

Besides being a fun, intense read, the book kept sending me off thinking -- about impending fatherhood, about trying to "make your mark" for whatever reason, about bitterness, art, California, all kinds of stuff. Recommended (though I'm probably the last person on the planet to read it).

Funny story: A few weeks ago antisleep showed up on boingboing. I thought my McMansion blog entry might interest other people, and I'm a publicity whore, so I submitted it. Mark Frauenfelder liked the pics and posted a link on bb. Which was kind of neat -- thanks to self-love I could watch my blog entry ripple across the interweb.

A few days later I was in Atlanta with nothing to do, so I bought AHWOSG (I'd been meaning to for months) and started reading it. Midway through the book, Dave Eggers describes the warehouse space his fledgling zine shared with some other publishers in the mid-90's. I laughed out loud at the weird coincedence when I came upon this:

...There is also bOING bOING, a "neurozine" published by Carla Sinclair and Mark Frauenfelder, a plastic/gel/leather-new-wave-circa-1984-looking husband-and-wife team just up from L.A.
