wood.

Work on chez Evans continues, though Chris has pretty much left me on my own so I can flail in private. After days of drywall mudding and sanding I moved on to the final step -- shelves for the bottom of each interior window. Shelves... no big deal, 1x8 poplar, sanded and whatever. Right. Poplar turned into maple turned into really nice curly maple and oh yeah, I don't have a planer or joiner, nor have I ever finished a piece of wood well before. And we're off!

We went to a couple of specialty lumberyards this morning, and I learned more about wood than I've ever known. Did you know that some woods' coloration happens when the tree is near the edge of the forest, and part of the tree is facing into the wind? The flexing of one side does different things to the fibers so it looks different.

Now that's analog, people.

In other news, Spectacle & Testicle are landing some more laptop gigs. Hopefully some with Kate sitting in, and also some with keyboard savant Bob Holub. Dates to follow.

And lastly: Bradee's pregnant. That's right, you heard me.
