The front office folks at my company use Goldmine. Goldmine is, as best I can tell, an amazingly bad piece of software. Most of the developers use Outlook Express. I use VM inside XEmacs. Which works okay but not great. I don't have an archive of every message ever sent to me, like I set up on the antisleep supercomputer, and most painful, Goldmine sends these weird-ass HTML messages that VM can't seem to uncrack. I haven't had time to figure out what's broken about them so I finally decided to try Thunderbird today.
I lasted about 20 minutes. GUI mail clients freak me out. And it's not just because I miss M-x insert-rectangle. I never want to touch the mouse for email. I need tab completion when I save to a folder. I need the "delete" key to work no matter which pane has focus. I HAVE EMAIL NEEDS.
Plus the folder search didn't seem to work at all and I couldn't figure out a way to simply use my existing Inbox folder. Or to archive incoming/outgoing mail by month.
I could probably try harder but that hurt too much. Maybe next time I'll try Outlook, so I can get the full virus experience too.
