helping animals in DC.

When Katie got sick, we took her to Friendship Hospital for Animals in DC. It's a long drive considering all the local vets, but Friendship is a special place and it's well worth the drive and extra cost. I've used them for years. It's one of those "why can't I find a single M.D. for myself that acts this way" places.

The rapid progression of Katie's illness was horrible, but Dr. Schrager at Friendship somehow managed to make the experience ... decent. As decent as it could be, at least. She spent hours with us talking through all the possibilities, their causes, and their implications; she called us at 3am with test results; she hugged me when we decided that we had to put Katie to sleep. This woman is the Chief of Emergency Services at a very busy hospital but every time she walked into a consultation room with us, it was as though we were the only people in the hospital. Amazing.

So the Friendship people have credibility with me.

Which leads me to this: I just received this email from Friendship's director, describing imminent changes in DC Animal Control. If you live or work in DC, please give it a read, then take a few minutes to contact your Council member.
